He took a bullet for the team.  In fact, quite a few.

Mustafa Tiryaki (61) lives in Arsin district of Trabzon province
and is the village chief of Yolüstü village.  On 29 July 1978 while
Tiryaki was on army duty on the Syrian border in Şanlıurfa he
was seriously wounded in a clash with smugglers.  Tiryaki spent
about two months in hospitals in Gaziantep and Trabzon to have
4 bullets extracted from his face.

Since then Tiryaki has always experienced headaches and when
the pain increased he went to a hospital last week. The doctors
who looked at Tiryaki's x-rays were shocked to see a bullet lodged
in his brain. (!) The only solution is a risky operation.  Surgeon
Ahmet Çubukçu was surprised that no doctor had noticed the bullet
until now but he said that the bullet is not a threat to Tiryaki's brain
functions.

On 24 January 1980, Tiryaki had filed suit against the Turkish
General Staff (TGS)for 30,000 TL in compensation for his injuries.
Tiryaki explained that "the court ordered TGS to pay me 30,000 TL
but I didn't follow-up on the case and because my address changed
I didn't know about the court's decision.  After the ensuing 10 years,
in accordance with the law, the money went to the Treasury." (!)
